Students and faculty at colleges and
universities produce an incredible amount of media. For the most part,
this is done in a very ad-hoc fashion for specific courses and research
efforts. More often than not, the content produced for these specific
courses is not used beyond the duration and population of that course -
very little sharing or broader access is possible. This means that this
valuable content has a very transient and short-lived value.
Because of the nature of a higher education environment - large
population, rapid changes in course enrollment, decentralized IT
management, etc. - it is very difficult to "democratize" access to all
the valuable content that's produced across the enterprise. |
Ancept Media Server
provides a centralized repository for all this valuable media and a
means to "transform" basic media objects into usable "learning"
objects. Students and faculty from across the enterprise are able to
easily contribute new content, apply required meta-data and
relationships to associated content to create learning objects to be
used beyond just their domain in an on-demand fashion.
Contribute–
allow all students and faculty to easily submit content, defining with
whom to share the content and associated permissions
Index
– tag the content with custom or standard meta-data schemas, like MARC or Dublin Core
Centralize
– store all content in a centralized digital repository so it
can be accessed by anyone anywhere with a Web browser
Access
– use existing tools, such as course management or learning management system to easily access and view content

Return on investment in higher
education is often measured by improvement in the learning process.
Ancept Media Server provides a means to do just this by allowing
institution to maximize the value of content being produced for a
single course or research function. This content can now be leveraged
by multiple students and faculty in other courses across campus.
